We are in central Europe at the end of the 1600s. The civilised world is coming back to life after the disasters of the plague. People are eager to start again, to plough the fields, build houses and aspire to a better life.
Players will take on the role of a rural family of the period, with the task of running their farm as best they can, applying themselves with greater dedication to farming or ranching or whatever, investing the time and labour of the family members (in gameplay terms, by placing the meeples of their family members on the action squares they wish to occupy).A game of Agricola takes place in 14 rounds. During each round, players place each of their family members on exactly one action square, until all players have placed all their family members. The available actions are represented on the game board.
Players will obstruct each other, as each action square can only be used by one family member in each round. Selected actions from the previous round will then be performed.
The goal is to collect food for one's family and develop one's farm plan so that it is worth many points at the end of the game.
In short, a classic of the German genre, where the winner is the one who can best manage his resources. That is why Agricola is one of the management games par excellence.
